Breakfast, lunch and quick snacks throughout the day are all self-serve for RMH families. We keep the pantry filled so parents have options for quick meals during the day. A parent's goal is always to get back to their child's bedside as soon as they are able. So quick foods like Peanut Butter sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, canned soups, boxed pasta meals, chips, crackers, granola bars, and fruit cups are always welcomed donations for the pantry. Single serving snacks like bags of chips, trail mix, cookies and sandwich crackers make great snacks for our coffee cart as well!
As you can imagine, in an emergency very few families have the time to pack an overnight bag before heading to the hospital. The majority of our families arrive with nothing more than the clothes on their back--and they often end up staying for days or weeks at a time. The ability to take a hot shower and brush your teeth makes a huge difference in your ability to focus and keep your energy up in a crisis. Having shampoo, soap or shower gel, conditioner, deodorant, a brush and/or comb, razors, a toothbrush and toothpaste are all essentials for families who find themselves staying with us unexpectedly. Donations of travel size toiletries are so important for of our families.
When your house sleeps 20 families, you go through a lot of cleaning supplies! Liquid dish soap, dishwasher detergent, paper towels, zip food-storage baggies, liquid hand soap, hand sanitizer, dish sponges, laundry detergent (high efficiency), dryer sheets... you name it, we use it! Donations of household cleaning supplies go a long way to keep our home clean and safe for families.
Office supplies like copy paper, postage stamps, mailing labels, tape refills, paperclips and staples are all very useful donations to RMH that keep the House running smoothly.
