Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana creates, finds, and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children.
Our vision is to give a friendly welcome to families by caring for others and bringing families together through this sanctuary of nurturing for the body, mind, and spirit.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room is an oasis providing the comforts of home for the immediate families of children undergoing medical treatment in Michiana-area medical facilities. The Family Room becomes a home to its residents by addressing three basic needs of a family in a stressful situation:
-
The Family Room provides comfortable lodging in a warm, friendly atmosphere, including private bedrooms and facilities for cooking, laundry, and recreation.
-
The Family Room provides an emotional support system with other residents who act in the capacity of extended family and friends through open communication of feelings of concern. quiet areas are available for those times when a family or individual needs to be alone.
-
The Family Room also provides a way to re-establish a sense of control or responsibility in one's life by creating a cooperative and supportive atmosphere. Family members are required to maintain their own rooms, prepare their own meals when meals are not donated, and help with general tidiness in the common areas of the Family Room. Guests can make a donation to help support the facility, but no fee is required.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room guests are defined as the parents/legal guardians of pediatric patients in the NICU, PICU, PEDS of PEDS HEMOC units, and patients up to 21 years of age in the ICU.
