Becoming a Guest

Guest is:

A parent or legal guardian of a seriously ill child, who is receiving medical treatment and is a hospital inpatient or a patient of any Pediatric Unit or Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Criteria for Overnight Guests:

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is an “oasis" providing the comforts of home, open to families that have children 21 years of age or younger receiving medical treatment in Memorial Children's Hospital. Only one bedroom is allowed per family of a medical patient.  Admission is by referral from an appropriate social worker or hospital representative.

Admission is on a daily basis, with the following three criteria taken into consideration: 
  1. Critical needs of the child.
  2. The distance between home and the hospital
  3. The transportation needs of the family

Eligible for overnight stay:

  • Single adult (over 18)
  • Single parent 17 or younger accompanied by a parent/guardian
  • Two married adults (over 18)
  • Two married minors (under 18), as they are “emancipated minors”
  • Two unmarried adults (over 21) who are cohabitating
  • See Director for approval of any other situations

Day Usage for the Family Room:

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is open to all eligible registered guests for use between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
